One of the more prominent regolith constituents that is included in our Lunar and Martian Simulant is basalt. This black, volcanic rock is found in our Lunar and Martian simulants in varying degrees (12-32%). Space Resource Technologies' Basalt Simulant contains a high glass content to help mimic the glass that can be found in Lunar regolith.
Our Standard Mare Basalt (LMS-1E) Simulant has been designed to closely resemble NASA's JSC-1A, sourced from Merriam Crater. This simulant is the ideal choice for large- and medium-scale engineering studies, in support of future human exploration to the Moon. This simulant’s chemical composition, mineralogy, and particle size distribution fall within range of Lunar Mare regolith samples.
